The 2026 Summer Internship offers PhD candidates the opportunity to engage in quantitative research and client solutions within a collaborative environment at PIMCO's Newport Beach headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce innovative thought leadership and quantitative research for PIMCO's clients.
  • Publish research pieces on relevant market themes.
  • Construct bespoke investment solutions and develop platforms and applications to analyze client portfolios.
  • Collaborate with multiple parts of the firm, including Portfolio Management, Product Strategy, and Client Management.
  • Participate in internal and client presentations.
  • Build research and investment solutions from inception to completion to fit client needs.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. candidate from a top program in quantitative disciplines such as Finance, Economics, Statistics, Physics, or Math.
  • Able to begin full-time employment at a PIMCO office between January 2027 and August 2027.
  • Enrolled at a university during the Fall 2026 semester (August 2026 - December 2026).
  • Strong interest and background in quantitative disciplines; knowledge of asset pricing, economic theory, and optimization methods preferred.
  • Formal training in empirical research, especially time series and panel data econometrics; experience analyzing large data sets preferred.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++ preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and presentation skills.

  • Knowledge of asset pricing, economic theory, and optimization methods.
  • Experience analyzing large data sets.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled at a university during Fall 2026 semester.
