About the Role

Join us in the evolution of Amazon's Seller business! The Seller Growth Science organization is the growth and development engine for our Store. Partnering with business, product, and engineering, we catalyze SP growth with comprehensive and accurate data, unique insights, and actionable recommendations and collaborate with WW SP facing teams to drive adoption and create feedback loops. We strongly believe that any motivated SP should be able to grow their businesses and reach their full potential supported by Amazon tools and resources. As the Applied Science Manager, you will own and drive the science team's charter, working backwards from seller problems and product strategy to develop a long-term science vision and plan. You will guide your team in creating and deploying sophisticated algorithms and models that drive measurable improvements in seller experience and business metrics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive team charter, working backwards from customer problems and product strategy, to develop a long-term science vision and plan, team tenets, and contribute to organizational working backwards documents (e.g. press release, FAQs).
  • Develop mechanisms that enable the team to collaborate on research, deliver independently, and integrate with end-to-end processes and technology dependencies.
  • Insist on a high bar for deliveries with monitoring and audit mechanisms for the team's solutions.
  • Work with Product and Tech leaders to expose and accelerate science innovation internally and to other organizations.
  • Hire, develop, and nurture scientists, focusing on both technical skills and leadership principles, to increase their scope, impact, and influence at Amazon.
  • Guide the development and deployment of sophisticated algorithms and models, including ML, Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning, and generative AI-driven solutions, to improve seller experience and business metrics.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience managing scientists or machine learning engineers.
  • 3+ years of experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business applications.
  • Master's degree in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics, or an equivalent quantitative field.
  • Knowledge of ML, NLP, Information Retrieval, and Analytics.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations.
  • Experience communicating with users, technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software features, and technical designs.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building complex software systems involving deep learning, machine learning, and computer vision that have been successfully delivered to customers.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant quantitative field.
  • Experience in machine learning model development and deployment.
  • Management experience leading scientists or engineers.
