About the Role

The Advertising Incrementality Measurement (AIM) team at Amazon is focused on building scientifically-rigorous causal inference methodologies at scale to measure advertising effectiveness. The role involves expanding causal modeling solutions to help understand the impact of advertising, providing customer-facing experimentation tools, and supporting internal research and development. The team aims to produce data that serves as the ground truth for advertisers making decisions involving tens to hundreds of millions of dollars in advertising spend.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with economists and senior team members to drive science improvements and implement technical solutions at the state-of-the-art of machine learning and econometrics.
  • Collaborate with engineering and science teams to design, implement, prototype, deploy, and maintain large-scale causal ML models.
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of advertising-related datasets, including large real-world experimental data, to understand advertiser behavior, identify model improvement opportunities, and recognize limitations.
  • Define data quality standards for understanding typical behavior, capturing outliers, and detecting model performance issues.
  • Work with product stakeholders to improve measurement of advertising effectiveness for customers.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience building models for business applications.
  • PhD or Master's degree with 4+ years of experience in CS, CE, ML, or related fields.
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or related languages.
  • Experience with ML modeling toolkits such as sklearn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.
  • Experience with data exploration and querying technologies such as pandas, SQL, and Spark.
  • Very strong written communication skills, capable of distilling complex technical details into insights for stakeholders.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with causal inference, A/B testing, experimentation.
  • Experience with MLOps practices for developing models in production.
  • Experience with causal ML modeling techniques (e.g., double machine learning, uplift modeling).
  • Familiarity with AWS systems such as S3, EMR, Sagemaker.
  • Experience with statistical visualization tools like ggplot2, plotly, Seaborn.
  • Experience with digital advertising is a bonus but not required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in CS, CE, ML, or related fields.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Java, C++, Python.
  • Experience with ML frameworks and data querying tools.
