About the Role

The Embedded Software Engineer III supports the embedded software development, design, and testing for Honeybee Robotics' electronic Motion Control products. The role involves working within a multi-disciplinary project team to develop complex electromechanical actuator systems, collaborating closely with electrical engineers to integrate hardware and firmware, and transitioning products through development phases to manufacturing and testing. The position emphasizes safety, quality, and impact on space exploration, with a focus on safe human spaceflight and lowering the cost of access to space. Key Responsibilities

  • Development and support of firmware on softcore RISC-V architecture for motion control.
  • Testing, troubleshooting, and long-term support of embedded system firmware.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams to develop complex electromechanical actuator systems.
  • Collaborate closely with electrical engineers in the lab to integrate hardware and firmware.
  • Transition flight-ready products to manufacturing and test engineering teams.
  • Own individual design tasks, participate in design reviews, create documentation, and interface with customers as needed.
  • Review work and tasks of junior engineers when applicable.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited technical college or university in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Science.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with embedded system design using C/C++.
  • Development and implementation of bare metal C code.
  • Experience with RISC-V (or similar) soft-core processors.
  • Experience in prototype development, debugging, and testing in a lab environment.
  • Knowledge of board-level communication interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, CAN.
  • Experience with Requirements Based Design, including configuration management, requirements analysis, architectural documentation, verification, and test procedures.
  • Ability to work in a highly skilled development team, collaborating with electrical, systems engineering, and manufacturing teams.
  • Familiarity with DevOps processes and culture.

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing embedded software for motion control and electromechanical systems for space environments.
  • Understanding of safety-critical software development standards such as DO-178C.
  • Comfortable working in an FPGA environment including VHDL/Verilog languages, synthesis tools, and methodologies.
  • Experience with DSP or Microcontroller firmware development.
  • Knowledge of AXI bus protocols.
  • Familiarity with static design analysis and simulation tools like LINT and SystemC.
  • Understanding of Guidance, Navigation, and Control systems, C/DH, and space environmental challenges.

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Science.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
