About the Role

The AI Architect will evaluate and benchmark AI capabilities, define implementation patterns for AI services, and enable MassMutual to make impactful, long-term decisions around AI-enabled business capabilities. This role involves developing strategies, reference architectures, roadmaps, and patterns to drive responsible AI adoption, research, and development. The AI Architect will align AI technology strategy with business goals, guide the planning and design of AI capabilities, and standardize technology stacks to enhance AI engineering speed and agility within MassMutual's Enterprise Architecture team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build Enterprise AI Architecture strategy and roadmaps
  • Develop AI Reference Architectures and Guidance
  • Update specification and publication of AI Standards and Patterns around AI technology, development, security, privacy, and observability
  • Build AI platform architecture and Integration Patterns, staying abreast of emerging AI technologies and integrating them as needed
  • Consult on AI capabilities for business and technology platforms to ensure alignment with overall business strategy
  • Evaluate and lead AI architecture deliverables, perform capability assessments, and support technical evaluations to close gaps
  • Publish deliverables and utilize multi-media to educate and engage with federated solution architecture community members
  • Partner with solution architects to document design decisions and solution architecture
  • Collaborate with technology leaders, business, and governance partners to identify AI risks and process issues, providing enterprise patterns to resolve them
  • Provide recommendations on problem solving, solution options, risks, cost/benefit analysis, and impact on cross-domain systems, business strategy, goals, and processes
  • Work with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, compliance, governance, privacy, business, and IT support teams to communicate and collaborate on architecture strategies, standards, and guidance
  • Partner with AI Governance, Security, and Privacy teams to support secure, ethical, and responsible AI use
  • Design AI architecture to mitigate current and emerging AI threats, including designing capabilities for AI Governance and Observability
  • Ensure AI architecture compliance with requirements such as the Colorado AI Act, global data privacy laws, and federal/state regulations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, system analysis, or a related technical field
  • Minimum of 8 years of IT design and implementation experience with at least two of the following: AI/ML frameworks, AI/ML development and coding environments, cloud platforms, or big data technologies
  • At least 5 years of involvement with solution architecture development and delivery
  • At least 5 years of experience developing and interpreting business architecture
  • At least 5 years of experience building solutions on complex cloud-native products, applications, and platforms
  • At least 5 years of experience in a technology advisory role, working directly with AI, machine learning technologies, statistical systems, or big data platforms

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to governance and compliance regimes, with a good understanding of security and privacy management
  • Experience working with AI Governance and Privacy requirements such as the Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act (CAIA)
  • Experience supporting agile teams by providing guidance on design, opportunities, impact, and risks, considering technical and architectural debt
  • Designing GenAI solutions, with experience in MLOPS, LLM, Amazon Bedrock, Q, OpenAI, CoPilot Studio, Langchain, DataFoundry, Data Fabric
  • Being a trusted and respected thought leader capable of influencing business and IT leaders and development teams
  • Technology-neutral approach, focusing on results rather than specific vendors or technologies
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and integrity
  • Motivated by achieving long-term business outcomes
  • Ability to balance long-term strategic decisions with short-term implications
  • Effective team collaboration and leadership skills in cross-functional environments
