Job Description

About the Role

Travelers is seeking a Consulting Technology Engineer (CICS/IMS Systems Programmer) to join their organization as they grow and transform their Technology landscape. The role involves supporting, configuring, and maintaining CICS, IMS, z/OS Connect, and related software for multiple business groups. The position is part of the Realtime Support team and requires a technical individual contributor capable of handling all aspects of evaluation, configuration, security, implementation, and support of infrastructure technologies within a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhering to Travelers change management processes regarding change windows, lead times, ServiceNow requests, and temporary access escalation.
  • Understanding of Travelers business groups and products as applicable to support the business needs and availability of individual CICS and IMS regions.
  • Consulting with business groups and other Technology teams on application development, new feature exploitation, proof of concepts, security enhancements, etc.
  • Attending and sometimes running monthly meetings with IBM and ISV to discuss product roadmaps, incidents, etc.
  • Connecting CICS & IMS to other technologies such as MQ and DB2, configuring z/OS Connect to enable application API deployments and to invoke CICS transactions, and configuring CICS and IMS for remote access by applications.
  • Developing and testing solutions for high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Occasional weekend work and after hours oncall support.
  • Developing tactics and operational plans in alignment with strategic objectives for assigned technologies and projects.
  • Driving the execution of departmental and corporate programs.
  • Leveraging infrastructure technology to develop and/or redesign technology solutions.
  • Building, leveraging, and maintaining effective alliances across technical and business communities.
  • Interacting with customers to achieve efficient, effective results.
  • Multi-tasking, prioritizing according to business priorities and production availability requirements.
  • Serving as a technical expert within the service delivery organization and providing consultation across teams.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of SMP/E software installation process, analyzing PTFs and HOLDDATA, triaging HIPER, FIXCAT, and PE'd PTFs.
  • Experience maintaining software currency and semi-annual maintenance migration to development, QA, and production CICS/IMS regions.
  • Knowledge of CICS and IMS parameters and internals to optimize functionality and resolve incidents.
  • Ability to create new CICS and IMS regions, started tasks, and address spaces and to migrate new transaction definitions.
  • Experience supporting z/OS Connect, TPX, CA GEN, EOS, and other CICS/IMS ISV software is a plus.
  • Seven years of experience in Technology preferred.
  • Two years of experience as a technical lead preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of infrastructure technologies such as Network, Database, Server, Storage etc. preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of foundational IT Infrastructure Operating Systems Software.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience, plus five years of experience in Technology; or a Master's degree in CS or related field with three years of experience.

Nice to Have

  • Supporting z/OS Connect, TPX, CA GEN, EOS, and other CICS/IMS ISV software.
  • Advanced knowledge of infrastructure technologies such as Network, Database, Server, Storage.
  • Expert knowledge of process discipline and IDLC methodology.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Five years of experience in Technology, or three years with a Master's degree.
