About the Role

Selective Insurance is looking for a Manager, Software Engineering responsible delivering software solutions and information systems to solve Billing business and customer needs. This individual will oversee a team consisting of software engineers and leads responsible for supporting applications that are of strategic importance to the corporation. The primary responsibility of this team is to ensure solutions are aligned to business strategies, and to provide technical leadership and implementation support to application delivery teams for new projects and enhancements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages a portfolio of business application projects for the Billing business.
  • Meet with other managers (IT and business) to discuss system requirements, specifications, costs and timelines.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with business and IT counterparts to ensure proper collaboration.
  • Accountable for project scope, schedule, and budget ensuring commitments and progress are monitored closely and communicated clearly.
  • Forecasts and allocates team members across several development projects.
  • Regularly reports key metrics like resource allocation, software defects, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Trains, supervises, assigns projects to, evaluates, and is responsible for hiring/termination of information technology personnel and contracting staff.
  • Performs talent management of team members to ensure high morale and appropriate advancement of individual goals and career aspirations.
  • Participates in the evaluation, acquisition, and implementation of vendor software to support business processes.
  • Troubleshoots technology issues.
  • Participates in and well-planned implementation of established quality improvement initiatives and processes.
  • Establishes and enforces design and coding standards in conjunction with the architecture group.
  • Evaluates and recommends application development tools.

Requirements

  • Experience with the Majesco P&C Core Suite Billing SaaS solution.
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of Agile methodologies.
  • Prior management/supervisory experience with information technology personnel and offshore/onsite consults preferred.
  • Prior hands-on application development experience using web-based technologies and languages is preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of surrounding technologies including design patterns and modern standards.
  • Great leadership skills to work effectively with peers within and across organizations.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to deliver compelling presentations.
  • Strong ability to manage and execute on multiple project timelines and manage competing priorities.
  • College degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in Property Casualty insurance a plus.

Nice to Have

  • Prior management/supervisory experience with information technology personnel and offshore/onsite consults.
  • Prior hands-on application development experience using web-based technologies and languages.

Qualifications

  • College degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business, or related field preferred.
