The role of Principal Data Scientist on the Data Insights & AI team involves leading the design, development, and deployment of advanced analytics and AI solutions that drive strategic business outcomes, working with large-scale datasets, and applying machine learning and statistical techniques to uncover insights and optimize operations. The position requires a hands-on leader who can bridge data science and business strategy, mentor team members, and promote best practices in MLOps, LLMOps, model governance, and responsible AI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of data science projects—from problem definition to model deployment and monitoring.
  • Develop and operationalize machine learning models using Azure Databricks, MLFlow, Azure DevOps and Python.
  • Design scalable data pipelines and workflows in collaboration with data engineering teams.
  • Apply advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, and AI techniques to solve complex business problems.
  • Create compelling data visualizations and dashboards using Power BI or Tableau.
  • Promote reproducibility, version control, and automation using Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Drive best practices for putting ML/AI models into production, including monitoring, retraining, and performance evaluation.
  • Share insights on common pitfalls and success factors in productionizing machine learning solutions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for data science initiatives across business units.
  • Translate complex analytical concepts into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, engineers, and business analysts.
  • Foster a culture of experimentation, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing within the data science community.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with a strong academic background in statistics, mathematics, computer science, data mining, machine learning, operations research, physics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in advanced analytics data analysis, with experience across the entire model development lifecycle.
  • Deep understanding of statistical and predictive modeling concepts, including machine-learning or data mining approaches.
  • Strong statistical modeling experience and data aggregation skills.
  • Expertise in analyzing large, complex, multi-dimensional datasets.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud ecosystem including Azure Cloud, Hive, Spark, Kafka.
  • Exceptional communication skills for colleagues and management.
  • Proficient in SQL, Python, and R; knowledge of Pyspark, SparkR, or Scala is a plus.
  • Experience working in an agile team with internal and external resources.
  • Proficient in IDEs such as VS Code or PyCharm.

Nice to Have

  • Doctoral Degree or PhD.
  • Experience within the automotive or mobility industry.
  • Familiarity with modern software development practices such as Git, JIRA, CI/CD methods, MLOps.
  • Knowledge of ML libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Languages: PySpark, R (optional).

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant quantitative discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in data analysis and model development.
