About the Role

Research Engineering /Scientist Associate III, Center for Transportation Research, Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin is a position focused on supervising research related to pavements and materials or relevant scientific assignments. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and supervise research on funded projects in the fields of pavement and materials engineering and testing.
  • Perform laboratory and field testing of materials and pavements, including data collection and analysis.
  • Write research reports, articles, technical memoranda, and contribute to publications.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with standards such as AASHTO Re:Source.
  • Train graduate students on test methods and perform calibration and verification of laboratory instruments.
  • Develop or assist in developing new research proposals and conduct literature reviews.
  • Coordinate with team members on multiple research efforts and lead or participate in professional committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 4 years of experience working in an asphalt materials lab.
  • Experience related to mechanistic modeling of pavement materials and development of new test methods.
  • Experience with pavement materials testing and interpretation of test data.
  • Knowledge of AASHTO Re:Source accreditation process and training in binder testing.
  • Experience calibrating and verifying equipment such as DSR, BBR, SGC, RTFO, and PAV.
  • Experience collecting field samples and conducting field tests on asphalt pavements.

Nice to Have

  • Experience leading a research team and writing research or interagency contract proposals.
  • Experience working with faculty, researchers, and Graduate Research Assistants.
  • Experience collaborating with personnel from state agencies such as the Texas Department of Transportation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant laboratory experience in asphalt materials.
