The Senior Lead Teradata Database Administrator role involves managing the enterprise data warehouse for the Medicaid agency, supporting hardware and software, ensuring optimal performance, and supporting data engineering functions. This position requires regular onsite presence in Springfield, Illinois, and offers remote work flexibility within the U.S.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, monitor, and maintain OnPrem Teradata hardware/software including patches, replacements, and upgrades with support from Teradata
  • Support data governance, metadata management, and system administration
  • Plan and execute tasks required to ensure the Teradata system is operational including occasional evening and weekend support for Teradata maintenance
  • Provide direction to developers on operational, design, development, and implementation projects to ensure best use of the Teradata system including review/approval of database components
  • Perform database backup and recovery operations using BAR DSA and NetBackup
  • Develop proactive processes for monitoring capacity and performance tuning
  • Provide day-to-day support for EDW users' problems such as job failures, slowdowns, and data inconsistencies
  • Maintain rules set in Teradata Active System Management (TASM) and support workload management
  • Support database system and application server support for disaster recovery build/test, annual drills, and quarterly maintenance
  • Monitor the health of the Teradata system and Teradata Managed Servers using Viewpoint and other tools, taking preventive or corrective actions as needed
  • Maintain access rights, role rights, priority scheduling, and reporting using dynamic workload manager, DBQL, and security administration
  • Coordinate with team and customers to support database needs and implement necessary changes
  • Support internal/external audit processes and address vulnerabilities proactively
  • Prepare and support IRS and internal audit activities
  • Coordinate with Teradata for system hardening and delivery of SCSEM reports, addressing vulnerabilities
  • Generate and maintain capacity, space, and CPU reports, analyzing resource usage and monitoring performance and growth
  • Review and resolve Teradata alerts, communicating risks/issues to management and stakeholders
  • Report on status, future roadmap, process improvements, automation, and mitigation strategies
  • Lead database or data-related meetings and projects, delivering quality results with minimal supervision
  • Share knowledge and mentor team members for backups
  • Perform additional duties related to the position as assigned
  • Manage front-end tool (OpenText Bi-Query) and model maintenance and administration

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience as a Teradata DBA on Version 15+ (preferably 17+) and experience leading major upgrades
  • 5+ years of experience as primary/lead DBA with leadership and presentation skills
  • 5+ years of experience writing complex SQL using SQL Assistant/Teradata Studio
  • 3+ years of experience with Teradata 6800/1800 system or IntelliFlex
  • 3+ years of experience with Teradata Utilities (FastLoad, Multiload, FastExport, BTEQ, TPT) in Unix/Linux environment
  • 3+ years of experience performance tuning in large data warehouses (>5TB), using advanced SQL, DBQL, and Explain plans
  • 3+ years of experience analyzing project requirements and developing detailed database specifications
  • 3+ years of experience resolving customer-facing database or query issues
  • Experience with data warehouse or equivalent systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, team collaboration, mentoring, and strong work ethics
  • Location: Springfield, IL or within two hours driving distance

Nice to Have

  • Teradata Vantage Certified Master
  • 5+ years of logical and physical data modeling experience
  • Experience with Erwin or other data modeling software
  • Experience maintaining and creating models using OpenText BI-Query
  • Experience working with end users to understand requirements
  • Experience collaborating with developers on solutions
  • Knowledge of standards, best practices, and code reviews
  • Experience with metadata management, data/IT governance, and data security
  • Experience in Application Server Hardware/Software Administration (Windows/Linux)
  • Experience working in a matrix organization and agile environments such as Scrum with tools like DevOps and GitHub
  • Experience with State Medicaid/Medicare/Healthcare applications
  • Experience in large DDI projects and upgrading to IntelliFlex
  • Knowledge of Cloud databases such as Snowflake and migration projects from on-premises to Cloud

Qualifications

  • Experience with Teradata Version 15+ (preferably 17+)
  • Leadership experience as a primary/lead DBA
  • Proficiency in SQL and Teradata utilities
  • Experience with performance tuning and system monitoring
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
