About the Role

Coinbase is seeking experienced backend engineers to join our team to build out the next generation of crypto-forward products and features. Our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world by building the emerging onchain platform and the future global financial system. We aim to make cryptocurrency accessible to everyone across the globe, operating real-time applications with high frequency, low latency updates, and managing the most secure, dockerized infrastructure running in the cloud. The role involves solving large-scale, complex technical problems and contributing to the development of Coinbase's retail app and suite of products, including the Coinbase app, advanced trade, dapps, and staking. Our work culture is intense and collaborative, with in-person participation required throughout the year, including team and company-wide offsites.

Key Responsibilities

Decompose our monolithic Rails app into microservices.
Articulate a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling our backend systems.
Work with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into a tangible roadmap every quarter.
Write high quality, well tested code to meet the needs of your customers.

Requirements

At least 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services.
Knowledge of service-oriented architecture.
Ability to write high quality, well tested code.
Passion for building an open financial system that brings the world together.

Nice to Have

Experience with rapid growth in a company (from startup to mid-size).
Experience building growth experiments or A/B tests.
Experience with Blockchains (such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.).
Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or Redshift.
Built financial, high reliability, or security systems.
Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.
