About the Role

Google Cloud's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. The role involves working on critical projects within Google Cloud, with opportunities to switch teams and projects as the business evolves. Engineers are expected to bring fresh ideas across various areas such as distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, data storage, security, AI, and more. The team is responsible for core Borg components like Scheduler, Rescheduler, and Lumos, organized into Infrastructure and Products tracks. The organization prioritizes security, efficiency, and reliability, shaping the future of hyperscale computing and AI platforms like Vertex AI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers to deliver the whole life-cycle of services to design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve software.
  • Own strategic outcomes for projects/programs by planning, communicating, designing, and directly contributing to them.
  • Partner with cross-functional peers to influence systems, processes and programs.
  • Provide technical and execution guidance to other engineers on the team.
  • Work with Product Areas to understand requirements, oversee mapping of requirements into engineering deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience in cross-functional collaboration and working across boundaries.
  • Experience working with Python, C++, or Go.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in designing large-scale, distributed systems.
  • Experience in software engineering and familiarity with C++.
  • Experience with agile project management.
  • Experience building infrastructure, simulation, emulation, and developer tools to increase developer productivity.

Qualifications

  • Formal educational background includes a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Benefits & Perks

  • US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits.
  • Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location, with individual pay influenced by work location, skills, experience, and education.
