Job Description

About the Role

At Google, our philosophy is build it, break it and then rebuild it better. That thinking is at the core of how we approach testing at Google. Unlike roles with similar names at other companies, Test Engineers at Google aren't manual testers -- you write scripts to automate testing and create tools so developers can test their own code. As a Test Engineer, you navigate Google's massive codebase, identify weak spots and constantly design better and creative ways to break software and identify potential problems. You'll have a huge impact on the quality of Google's growing suite of products and services. The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google's artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize or develop automation tools or scripts to improve product and engineering health.
  • Define the test framework, test preconditions, and other test control and reporting functions to enable others to test functionality.
  • Improve existing test infrastructure or create new test infrastructure to increase efficiency and productivity in test case development, scheduling, or deployment.
  • Design, document, and execute robust test plans and test cases covering all facets of hearable software, including system-level functionality, seamless connectivity (Bluetooth Classic/LE, interoperability), and critical audio performance (Sync, gap and glitches, transparency, noise cancellation).
  • Assess, and integrate AI-powered testing tools and methodologies to significantly boost testing efficiency, broaden test coverage, and enhance defect identification for hearable products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in coding, developing test methodologies, writing test plans, creating test cases, and debugging.
  • Experience testing software for consumer electronics, such as hearables, wearables, audio products, or Bluetooth-enabled devices.
  • Experience working in integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines.

Nice to Have

  • Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in specialized testing such as production testing, system integration testing, etc.
  • Experience testing audio performance aspects such as playback quality, microphone capture, latency, and features like Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) or transparency modes.
  • Experience with test automation tools and frameworks relevant to mobile applications.
  • Understanding of Bluetooth Classic and LE audio, protocols, pairing processes, and common connectivity issues.

Benefits & Perks

  • US base salary range for this full-time position is $122,000-$174,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
  • Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
