About the Role

The Advanced Software Engineer will be a key member of a cross-functional team responsible for developing the multi-level security Operating System, PitBull, and its applications within the truMLS Products. This role involves working on high-security software solutions for national security, with opportunities for continuous learning and professional development at General Dynamics Mission Systems, a leader in high technology solutions for defense and scientific missions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop the multi-level security Operating System, PitBull, and its applications as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Contribute to the software development life cycle, including design, coding, testing, and debugging.
  • Collaborate with team members to provide technical leadership and ensure project success.
  • Engage in problem-solving activities related to operating systems, kernel development, and security modules.
  • Participate in open-source Linux kernel projects and contribute to Linux security and testing tools.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field.
  • Requires 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of experience.
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance at the time of hire.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of work performed within the facilities.
  • Strong experience with Linux kernel development and debugging.
  • Proficiency in C programming and kernel module development.
  • Solid understanding of operating systems concepts and architecture.
  • Experience with version control systems like Git.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Nice to Have

  • Agile experience.
  • Contributions to open-source Linux kernel projects.
  • Experience with the PitBull Operating System or Red Hat Linux.
  • Experience with the Linux Security Module.
  • Experience with IPA (Identity, Policy, and Audit).
  • Experience with the Linux Test Project.
  • Knowledge of hardware architecture and device drivers.
  • Creative thinking and demonstrated success leading the software development life cycle.
  • Collaborative team player with technical leadership skills.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in negotiation and meeting challenging customer requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience or a Master's degree with 3 years of experience.
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance.
