About the Role

Wells Fargo is seeking an AI Applications Engineering Senior Manager to lead the development of cutting-edge generative AI applications for internal use. This role is ideal for a technically strong leader passionate about building AI-driven solutions that enhance Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) productivity. The manager will oversee a high-performing agile team within Commercial and Corporate and Investment Banking Technology (CCIBT), focusing on large language model (LLM) services, agentic workflows, and AI Innovation. Key responsibilities include guiding architecture and design, ensuring secure and scalable solutions, and collaborating with product teams to align technology with business goals. The role offers the opportunity to shape the future of AI at Wells Fargo while mentoring top engineering talent and driving innovation across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team or teams of engineering managers and experienced engineers in specialized domain areas, in roles with moderate complexity and risk responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology
  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
  • Partner with, engage and influence architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, understanding next generation domain architecture and enable application migration paths to target architecture such as cloud readiness and data strategy
  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for resolving technology roadblocks including code, build, and deployment issues, while managing the software development cycle and security standards
  • Determine strategies and act as an escalation partner for scrum teams to meet high-risk deliverables, removing impediments and encouraging continual improvement
  • Build engineering skills in the codebase, conduct peer reviews, and guide design as needed
  • Interpret, develop, and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of moderate complexity, managing and mitigating technology and enterprise risk
  • Collaborate with Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements, promote innovative solutions, and advocate for agile and DevOps practices
  • Interact directly with third-party vendors and technology service providers
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources to meet commitments and strategic objectives
  • Hire, build, and guide a culture of talent development, conduct performance management for engineers and managers

Requirements

  • 6+ years of Specialty Software Engineering experience or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education
  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience
  • Experience in generative AI, DevOps, and agile leadership
  • Strong focus on generative AI model safety and accuracy, with awareness of ethical and risk considerations
  • Knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and agentic workflows in generative AI applications
  • Proficiency in DevOps tools and practices, including infrastructure as code
  • Experience collaborating with product and business stakeholders to deliver user-centric solutions
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in the financial industry
  • Ability to balance technical excellence with business priorities
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing, agile software teams
  • Experience in recruiting, developing, and retaining engineering talent
  • Knowledge of test-driven development methodologies
  • Ability to manage complex technology projects
