About the Role

As a Machine Learning Research Engineer in the Machine Intelligence Neural Design (MIND) team at Apple, you will be part of the Data and Machine Learning Innovation (DMLI) organization. The team focuses on ML, computer vision, and energy efficiency research, contributing to both short-term and long-term projects across Apple products and high-risk, high-reward initiatives. The role involves advancing reasoning and optimization techniques for improved accuracy and efficient inference, with a focus on pushing the boundaries of current technology through innovative research and engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Research and applied work in LLM reasoning, planning, tool use, agentic LLMs, and related topics
Work on the next generation of LLM and VLM architectures and reasoning models

Requirements

MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related fields
Quality publications in LLM Reasoning and Planning (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, etc.)
Expertise in PyTorch and Python programming
Experience with large-scale model training and tuning

Nice to Have

Experience in tool use, agentic LLMs, RAG
Experience with processing multiple modalities (audio/vision) with Foundational Models
Experience with efficient inference, hardware/software co-design, and performance optimization
Experience with Jax programming
Understanding of ML accelerations and architectures

Qualifications

MS or Ph.D. in CS or related fields
Quality publications in relevant research areas
Proficiency in PyTorch/Python
Experience with large-scale model training/tuning
