Job Description

About the Role

The Principal Data Scientist of Market Intelligence is a critical role to drive our organization's understanding of competitive landscape and identify retail growth opportunities through analyzing complex datasets and developing advanced statistical models. You will have direct visibility with the executive leadership team and will drive strategic initiatives to support the rapid growth of our omni-channel businesses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights to measure performance against competition and inform business growth opportunities
  • Research, create and implement advanced statistical models and cutting-edge machine learning algorithms on fast-moving structured and unstructured data to support decision making
  • Have a very strong product mindset and proactively ideate, design, improve and automate relevant data products
  • Lead projects and take ownership of the whole lifecycle of projects, including prototyping models and data process code, communicating with cross-functional teams to align progress and collaborate on integrations
  • Communicate findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through clear and concise reports, visualizations, and presentations to gain alignment and drive business actions
  • Guide and mentor junior data scientist team members on modeling processes and algorithms and foster a collaborative and innovative work environment

Requirements

  • Masters in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Information Technology or related analytical discipline with 4+ years of post-graduate relevant work experience or Ph.D with 2+ years of post-graduate relevant work experience
  • Proven advanced modeling experience in leading data-driven projects from definition to execution, driving and influencing project roadmaps
  • Experience with at least one scripting language (Python/R)
  • Deep expertise in writing and debugging complex SQL code
  • Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to analyze complex problems with critical thinking and innovative solutions
  • Strong production level modeling experience with one programming language from end-to-end
  • Experience with full lifecycle of a real-world modeling project in a lead role
  • More than 3 years of experience in retail industry or macro-economic related functions

Nice to Have

  • Data science, machine learning, optimization models, PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics
  • Publications or active peer reviewer in related journals or conferences
  • Successful completion of assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R
  • Experience using open source frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Torch)
  • Knowledge of creating inclusive digital experiences and implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices

Qualifications

  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field
  • Option 2: Master's degree in the same fields and 1 year of relevant experience
  • Option 3: 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field
