Nature Portfolio, a flagship of Springer Nature, is a world leader in publishing high-quality research, including the journal Nature Aging, which focuses on aging, longevity, and age-related diseases. The role involves supporting the editorial process for Nature Aging, a highly selective, online-only, monthly journal dedicated to research on aging and related fields.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handling original research papers and working closely with editor teams on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
  • Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.
  • Contributing to the editorial strategy of the journal.
  • Commissioning and editing reviews and opinion articles such as Reviews, Perspectives and Comments, and writing Editorials and Research Highlights.
  • Liaising extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature Portfolio and with experts in the international scientific community.
  • Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.

Requirements

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in a field relevant to the scope of Nature Aging.
  • A thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including fluent English (written and spoken).
  • The ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted to the journal from different areas of this discipline.
  • Eagerness to travel and meet scientists worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about the journal's scope.
  • Editorial experience is not required, but applicants with editorial experience are encouraged to apply.

Nice to Have

  • Expert knowledge of statistics, bioinformatics, and/or machine learning approaches is desirable but not required.
