About the Role

GDIT seeks an Associate Software Engineer to join our team developing the Naval Integrated Tactical Environmental System - Next Generation (NITES-Next) program. The role involves working on software tools for the distribution, display, and analysis of meteorological and oceanographic data impacting Navy systems. The position is remote in San Diego, CA, with a focus on developing and refactoring web-based applications within a DevSecOps environment, supporting deployment across various platforms including containerized architectures and cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work on the Navy's premier suite of software tools for meteorological and oceanographic data analysis.
  • Develop and refactor web-based React JS user interfaces running in the Chromium Framework, and backend applications using Java and JavaScript.
  • Support deployment in an OpenShift-based containerized architecture built through the Navy's Overmatch Software Armory DevSecOps software factory.
  • Implement software for target deployments on Windows laptops, Linux VM-based ship environments, cloud-based Linux VMs, and containerized deployments.
  • Collaborate as a development team member within a Scrum Agile environment, participating in daily standups and using MS Teams for communication.
  • Assign and complete detailed software development tasks, including design, implementation, and testing of JavaScript and Java web applications.
  • Utilize virtual machines and cloud-hosted CI environments to develop software, refining tasks into small, well-defined user stories.

Requirements

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in Java and JavaScript (school-based experience of 3 years).
  • Experience with container-based software development (0-3 years).
  • Experience with JBoss Application Server (0-3 years).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely about technical problems and solutions.
  • BA/BS in Computer Science with a GPA of 3.5 or above, or equivalent experience.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Work location: Remote in San Diego, CA.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with GeoServer GIS.
  • Knowledge of Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Web Services: WMS, WCS, WFS.
  • Experience or knowledge of configuring DevSecOps pipelines.
  • Experience with Amazon Cloud, Istio, OpenShift, Quarkus.
  • METOC Domain Experience.
