About the Role

The Associate Software Engineer/Developer will perform computer application and systems development in support of the Wadsworth Center under the Wastewater Surveillance grant. This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the information technology needs of Wadsworth Center including software development to support wastewater dataflows and laboratory accessioning, processing, resulting and reporting. The role involves innovative, multidisciplinary research, complex diagnostics, novel detection methods, high-tech instrumentation, and state-of-the-art laboratory services within the scientific community of the Wadsworth Center of the New York State Department of Health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform application development tasks including researching and documenting technical designs, programming solutions, and customer technical support.
  • Support dataflows for customers and partners, developing unit tests and testing processes autonomously to ensure conformity of the application with business requirements and implement change management.
  • Participate in the release management process, including the testing, promoting, and releasing of applications through the development environments.
  • Participate in code critique sessions and documentation of technical designs.
  • Perform other appropriate related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology and three years of computer programming, database design/development, or systems analysis experience.
  • OR an Associate's degree and five years of such experience.
  • OR seven years of such experience.
  • A Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology may substitute for one year of experience.

Nice to Have

  • At least three years' experience building web applications using modern component-based frameworks, such as Angular.
  • At least three years' experience in application development using Spring and/or enterprise Java technologies, such as EJB, CDI, and REST web services.
  • Three years experience programming with SQL and interfacing with Oracle databases using persistence frameworks like JPA or Hibernate.
  • Three years' experience writing unit tests using frameworks such as Jasmine and Karma.
  • At least two years' experience with TypeScript.
  • At least two years' experience of web application deployment.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and container management solutions such as Docker or Podman.
  • Domain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems.

Qualifications

  • Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time, with residence within a reasonable commuting distance of the work location in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts.
