About the Role

We are seeking a Community Engagement Manager to develop and execute community engagement and entitlement strategies for energy storage projects. This role serves as a critical liaison between local governments, residents, and stakeholders, ensuring the successful integration of our projects into the community. This role is fully remote with up to 30% travel.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the primary liaison for local governments, residents, and stakeholders
Organize public meetings, open houses, and educational events
Monitor political and regulatory dynamics and mitigate entitlement risks
Oversee community benefit initiatives and grassroots advocacy
Collaborate with internal teams such as Development, Legal, and Government Affairs
Track community sentiment and opposition to maintain project viability
Manage stakeholder databases and outreach materials
Help build a national coalition around energy storage education for cities
Implement training and engagement strategies for OEMs, developers, and local partners

Requirements

Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) or similar infrastructure
Proven ability to speak at city council or planning commission meetings
Experience managing external consultants and navigating discretionary permitting processes
Ability to build coalitions with OEMs, developers, and local stakeholders
Strong understanding of real estate entitlements and development agreements
Ability to combat opposition and maintain community trust
Stakeholder management, energy infrastructure, government relations, real estate development agreements, coalition building, and strategic communications
3-5 years in community engagement, permitting, or public affairs
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects
Willingness to travel up to 30%
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Familiarity with SmartSheet or SiteTracker is a plus
Real estate background that supports development agreements and project approvals
Experience in renewables, oil & gas, or other energy sectors
Background in legal, city planning, or community development

Nice to Have

Experience with BESS or related technologies strongly preferred
