About the Role

The Decision Science Analyst II (Intermediate) in Property & CAT Claims Analytics at USAA provides decision support across the enterprise by applying mathematical, statistical, and innovative analytical techniques to draw insights and make actionable recommendations. Key Responsibilities

  • Leverages intermediate business, analytical and technical knowledge to participate in discussions with cross functional teams to understand and collaborate on business objectives and influence solution strategies.
  • Applies advanced analytical techniques to tackle medium to large scale business problems impacting current and future strategies.
  • Uses scientific and quantitative analytical approaches to draw conclusions and make 'insight to action' recommendations to answer business objectives and drive change.
  • Translates recommendations into communication materials for peer review and presentation to colleagues and senior/lead analysts.
  • Incorporates visualization techniques to support analysis points and facilitate understanding for less technical audiences.
  • Supports identifying and gathering relevant, high-quality data sources to fully address business problems through testing or exploratory data analysis (EDA).
  • Thoroughly documents assumptions, methodology, validation, and testing to facilitate peer reviews and ensure compliance.
  • Embraces emerging technology that can impact scientific methodologies and analytical approaches.
  • Delivers analysis and findings in a manner that conveys understanding, influences mid-level management, garners support, and drives business decisions and strategy.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative analytics field such as Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Operations Research, Data and/or Business Analysis, Data Science, or other quantitative discipline; or 4 years of related experience in statistics, mathematics, or quantitative analytics in lieu of degree.
  • At least 2 years of experience in data/analytics or functional business experience within the respective industry (e.g., P&C, Bank, Finance) or an advanced degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrates intermediate knowledge of mathematical and statistical techniques used for fact-based decision-making.
  • Intermediate knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, developing analysis queries and procedures in SQL, SAS, BI tools, or other analysis software.
  • Ability to connect external insights to business problems.

Nice to Have

  • Proficiency in using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Hands-on experience using SQL and/or Python.

Qualifications

  • Educational background in a quantitative discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with statistical and mathematical techniques.
  • Proficiency with data analysis and visualization tools such as SQL, SAS, BI tools, Python, or GIS software.
