About the Role

This role is a Decision Science Analyst Lead focused on P&C Underwriting Analytics at USAA. The position involves crafting analytical products to support data-driven decision-making throughout the underwriting process. The role requires strong analytical skills, collaboration, and translating data into practical solutions, with a remote work option and some on-site expectations within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leverages expert business, analytical and technical knowledge to lead discussions with cross functional teams to understand and collaborate highly complex business objectives and influence solution strategies.
  • Applies advanced analytical techniques to solve large-scale business problems with significant impact on current and future business strategy.
  • Organizes and leads all aspects of the development of requirements and resources necessary to meet established objectives.
  • Applies innovative and scientific/quantitative analytical approaches to draw conclusions and make recommendations to answer business objectives and drive change.
  • Translates recommendations into communication materials to effectively present to all levels of management.
  • Incorporates visualization techniques to support analysis points and facilitate understanding for less technical audiences.
  • Identifies and gathers relevant and quality data sources required to fully address the problem through testing or exploratory data analysis.
  • Integrates/transforms disparate data sources and applies appropriate data hygiene techniques.
  • Documents assumptions, methodology, validation, and testing to facilitate peer reviews and compliance.
  • Monitors and embraces emerging technology that can impact scientific methodologies and analytical approaches.
  • Delivers complex analysis and findings succinctly to influence senior executives and support business decisions.
  • Provides subject matter expertise in operationalizing recommendations.
  • Researches and pursues industry-leading practices in data and analytics to advance knowledge.
  • Creates new and emerging data sets and incorporates them into insights through data wrangling.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative analytics field such as Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Operations Research, Data and/or Business Analysis, Data Science, or related discipline, or 4 years of related experience in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years of data & analytics experience; or 6 years of experience plus up to 2 years of relevant industry experience; or an advanced degree with 6 years of experience in data/analytics or relevant industry experience.
  • 3 years of direct and/or indirect management experience.
  • Expert skills in mathematical and statistical techniques used for fact-based decision-making.
  • Expert knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, SQL, SAS, BI tools, or other analysis software, and relevant industry data & methods.
  • Proficiency in tools such as Python, R, or SQL.
  • Demonstrated expertise in statistical modeling, data analysis, and data visualization.
  • Experience in performing P&C underwriting analytics is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline or 4 years of related experience.
  • 8+ years of data & analytics experience or equivalent with advanced degree and relevant industry experience.
  • 3+ years of management experience.
