About the Role

The Senior Machine Learning Data Scientist Manager at Apple Ads is responsible for analyzing internet-scale data, developing predictive and forecasting models, and driving business insights to improve customer experience and app discovery. The role involves leading a large-scale data science team, working across cross-functional partners, and implementing end-to-end analytical solutions that have measurable impact. The position is based in Cupertino, CA, and offers opportunities to influence Apple's digital advertising strategies through advanced machine learning techniques and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Searches, analyzes, and interprets app metadata and App Store content to generate business insights that enhance user experience and app discovery.
  • Lead development of all predictive models related to seasonality, anomaly detection, and forecasting metrics for all ad businesses, guiding the entire model lifecycle from PoC to monitoring.
  • Lead classification and categorization of queries, apps, and app cohorts using ML models and LLMs, extracting contextual signals from interaction data.
  • Analyze business metrics, their interactions, and design frameworks for deep-dive investigations, monitoring usage metrics and explaining large-scale trends.
  • Create self-serve analytics tools and data products to enable rapid insights discovery at scale.
  • Automate and scale existing analysis methods, and develop new modeling and analysis frameworks.
  • Guide statistical analysis, model development, and data visualization to understand advertiser behavior on Apple Ads.
  • Support stakeholders across sales, finance, product, engineering, and senior leadership by presenting insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Lead and manage a team of managers and individual contributors, hiring, developing talent, and defining strategic vision and processes.
  • Empower global business teams with insights to meet strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience leading data science and machine learning teams, including managing managers.
  • 2+ years of experience in digital advertising and performance-based platforms.
  • Experience with advanced quantitative methods and model development, including regression, classification, clustering, time-series analysis, and LLMs.
  • Hands-on experience with modern data engineering technologies and cloud-based data warehousing solutions.
  • Proficiency in programming with Python and SQL, and familiarity with data visualization tools such as Pandas, R, Spark, and Tableau.
  • Ability to lead analysis across teams of data scientists and data engineers, and collaborate with stakeholders including senior leadership.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate data insights into strategic decisions.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and planning skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields.

Nice to Have

  • 15+ years of experience leading data science and machine learning teams, including managing managers.
  • 5+ years of experience in digital advertising and performance-based platforms.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics.
