Key Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with reporters and editors to maintain the quality and integrity of all copy, recognizing the need for fairness to earn the respect of a diverse audience.
Apply an outstanding knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and English usage, mastering both Associated Press and in-house style.
Excel at finding elegant wording solutions to occasionally wonkish prose, crafting compelling headlines, fact-checking, and preserving a writer's intent.
Field requests on projects big and small and treat each as if it's the most important thing they've read.
Track stories from Word docs or Google Docs and upload them into WordPress for publication, demonstrating or developing proficiency in SEO and technological troubleshooting.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with at least five years of relevant copyediting experience, ideally including at least two years working in an online publishing environment.
Outstanding knowledge of language, grammar, and usage.
Math skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and WordPress.
Ability to organize, prioritize, and maintain high-quality work amid competing deadlines, while taking initiative to solve problems.
Passionate interest in subjects covered by KFF Health News, particularly health care and science.
Appreciation for good writing.
Reasonable sense of humor.
Authorization to work in the United States.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with project-management tools such as Trello.
Experience with data-management tools such as Excel or Google Sheets.

Qualifications

Minimum five years of relevant copyediting experience.
Experience working in an online publishing environment.

Competitive salary between $91,100 and $105,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
