About the Role

The DevOps Release Manager will play a critical role in managing cross-functional release cycles across multiple Agile teams, ensuring smooth delivery in alignment with the SAFe framework. This position involves overseeing release management processes, coordinating with various technical teams, and supporting production deployments in a fast-paced environment for SOFT's client located in Richmond, VA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates in an Agile development environment by attending daily standups and release/sprint planning activities
  • Participates in and lead groups related to processes, standards and best practices
  • Acts as an internal consultant by providing technical guidance on infrastructure and release management best practices, defined process and procedures, controls observed to alleviate compliance findings
  • Adheres to the Federal Reserve's Enterprise Change Management policies and procedures, owns the planning, scheduling, and controlling of software builds throughout each stage of development and across various environments leading up to the release of a system or system updates in production
  • Leads overall execution of build and deploy activities for all environments by working closely with DevSecOps Engineers, Cloud Enablement Teams, DBAs, and other environment owners
  • Defines, documents, and executes continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) best practices and manages release and configuration plans
  • Chairs and facilitates production deployment events; triages and escalates issues as needed
  • Optimizes continuous deployment practices and introduces automation technologies to improve engineering and deployment quality
  • Coordinates with IT Senior Management, Application Development, National IT, Customer Support, Product Teams, and other resources for environment shakeout and testing
  • Coordinates with NIT team to plan and schedule environmental upgrades from development to production/contingency environments
  • Collaborates with ARC and development teams to develop and execute technology currency roadmaps, escalating issues and delays
  • Manages risks and resolves challenges impacting release scope, quality, and schedules
  • Participates in Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings to discuss release scope and roadblocks
  • Maintains a release repository with build and release procedures, dependencies, and notification lists
  • Works continuously to improve the release process and communicates release plans and changes
  • Plans, manages, and negotiates release activities
  • Provides technical guidance and direction for project strategies, supporting delivery of software releases, system upgrades, and related activities
  • Uses industry-standard best practices to ensure project milestones, goals, and compliance are met

Requirements

  • Release Management experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of Release Management Life Cycle and software branching methodologies
  • Experience with GitFlow branching methodology is desired
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate technical concepts
  • Ability to ask probing questions, identify unstated assumptions, and resolve conflicts
  • Broad knowledge of Agile product Management methodologies and industry best practices
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends (25%) for production support activities
  • Experience with ServiceNow, GitLab, Terraform, and JIRA, including reporting to capture metrics
  • Familiarity with AWS GovCloud services, Infrastructure as Code, Angular, micro-service architecture, Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres, Aurora database platforms
  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Release Management related Certifications (DevOps, ITIL, Cloud, etc.) is a plus

Nice to Have

  • Demonstrated knowledge in Release Management Life Cycle
  • Experience with various software branching methodologies
  • Experience with AWS GovCloud services and Infrastructure as Code
  • Knowledge of micro-service architecture and cloud technologies
  • Certifications in DevOps, ITIL, Cloud, etc.
  • Experience working in Federal Reserve or similar regulated environments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
