Job Description

About the Role

The Editor, Digital Scholarship at Boston College's Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies (IAJS) promotes and facilitates collegiality between the IAJS and the global network of Jesuit Studies scholars. The role involves overseeing digital projects related to Jesuit history and scholarship, serving as a liaison to university departments and external vendors, and contributing to the institute's digital strategy. The position supports the advancement of the historical study of the Society of Jesus and its educational and spiritual mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all Digital Projects within the IAJS, including the Jesuit Online Bibliography, Jesuit Online Library, Jesuit Historiography Online, the Digital Indipetae Project, the Portal to Jesuit Studies, the Jesuit Necrology Database, the Jesuit Catalogues Database, the Proceedings for the International Symposia on Jesuit Studies, the Online Chronicon, and other digital projects including mobile applications.
  • Serve as the liaison to the University Library, external digital vendors, and other Boston College departments related to IAJS digital and print projects.
  • Work with the Director and Associate Director to provide input into the Institute's overall digital strategy and contribute to its implementation.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in History, Religion, or Digital Humanities.
  • Three years of experience as a website designer or online database editor.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Jesuit archives, Jesuit history, and global Jesuit scholarship.
  • Demonstrated competence in the systematic use of digital resources and analysis of their application.
  • Proficiency in Latin and related paleography.
  • One year of project management experience.
  • Full-time employment eligibility.
