About the Role

Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) is Boeing's global research and development team focused on creating and implementing innovative technologies for aerospace. The company is seeking a high performing, collaborative Entry-Level or Associate Electromagnetic Effects Research Engineer/Physicist to join the Electromagnetics Effects (EME) team in Tukwila, WA. The role involves evaluating, analyzing, and measuring electromagnetic properties of advanced materials and configurations, as well as developing new digital engineering processes to be deployed across Boeing and with its customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform modeling, simulation, and other forms of analysis to predict airplane-level, component-level, and interconnect performance and to optimize designs around established requirements with respect to EME, Lightning Direct Effects, and Lightning Indirect Effects.
  • Assist in the development and feedback of software tools and workflows in EME processes to include testing, modeling, analysis, and simulation.
  • Assist in laboratory testing and test planning to characterize electromagnetic properties and failure modes of materials with respect to EME, Lightning Direct Effects, and Lightning Indirect Effects.
  • Design and conduct simple tests to validate performance of designs to requirements.
  • Collect and analyze data on supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Assist in the development and validation of electromagnetic requirements for electrical/electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects, and structures.
  • Assist in developing architectures to integrate components into higher level systems and platforms.
  • Provide support to products throughout their lifecycle from manufacturing to customer use by recommending engineering solutions to issues.
  • Support project management by preparing and presenting project status data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • Experience and certification in software languages (i.e., Python, MATLAB, C++).
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic principles.
  • Experience with laboratory test planning and execution.
  • Ability to perform modeling, simulation, and analysis related to electromagnetic effects.

Nice to Have

  • 2+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, software engineering, or aerospace engineering.
  • Experience with computational electromagnetic (CEM) tools such as FEKO, CST, HFSS, etc.
