About the Role

Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) is Boeing's global research and development team creating and implementing innovative technologies that make the impossible possible and enabling the future of aerospace. The team is composed of engineers, technicians, scientists, and innovators dedicated to advancing aerospace technology. The role involves evaluating, analyzing, and measuring electromagnetic properties of advanced materials and configurations, developing new electromagnetic digital engineering processes, and supporting innovation in electro-physics and electromagnetic effects within the aerospace industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical investigations independently or with a small team of engineers.
  • Maintain and advance computational electromagnetic and multi-physics tools, including time- and frequency-domain methods in low and high frequency models.
  • Apply electromagnetic theory to develop advanced electrical analysis and measurement techniques for lightning direct effects and static charge performance on composite and mixed-material structures.
  • Interface with materials engineers to define and qualify new materials meeting lightning and static charge performance requirements while satisfying structural and manufacturing needs.
  • Design and advise on testing to characterize materials in electromagnetic environments.
  • Apply knowledge of antenna design, RF spectrum, transmitter and receiver architectures, and RF distribution systems to coupling analyses, interference mitigation, and propagation studies.
  • Develop and validate electromagnetic requirements for electrical/electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects, and structures.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to develop architectures for component integration into systems and platforms.
  • Support project management by developing work statements, schedules, budgets, and fabrication plans for test articles and fixtures.
  • Develop proposals to support new business development.
  • Apply knowledge of development, production, certification, and qualification testing to ensure compliance with regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • Engineering experience with EMC, EMI, or E3 (Electromagnetic Environmental Effects).
  • Experience leading engineering teams for work definition and execution.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Nice to Have

  • 9+ years of related work experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in physics, electrical engineering, or aerospace.
  • Experience with computational electromagnetic software (CST, COMSOL, FEKO, EMA3D, etc.) or self-developed FEM or FDTD solvers.
  • Understanding of electromagnetic fields, shielding effectiveness, transfer functions, cable coupling, and antennas.
  • Experience with lightning effects, electrostatics, precipitation statics, and HIRF testing and phenomena.
  • Proficiency with software languages such as Python, MATLAB, C++.
  • Knowledge of statistics, stochastic processes, and machine learning.
  • Experience with 3D CAD and CAD automation.
  • Familiarity with wiring diagrams and design procedures.
  • Experience with electrical laboratory testing for high voltages and currents.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship is required for U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance (interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance).
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
