About the Role

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed to carry people and payloads to various orbits, with a fully reusable first stage and human-capable design. The position involves designing, building, verifying, and improving avionics flight software, supporting safe and repeatable spaceflight, and contributing to the company's mission of lowering the cost of access to space and enabling human space exploration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing, building, verifying, and continuously improving New Glenn's avionics flight software, software development tools, and verification tools.
  • Supporting the development and operations of the New Glenn launch vehicle to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient missions.
  • Creating software that enables faster, cheaper, and better rocket launches and landings.
  • Applying technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Experience writing low level software: bare metal systems, kernel development, BSPs, drivers, and similar.
  • Strong skills in C, C++, and Python.
  • Working knowledge of Software Verification and Automation.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice to Have

  • M.S. degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Experience developing, debugging, and verifying real-time embedded safety-critical software.
  • Understanding of communications protocols like TCP/IP, UART, SPI, and others, packet formats and serialization.
  • Experience developing software that directly interacts with hardware or programmable logic.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering or computer science field.
  • Experience with low-level software development, embedded systems, and verification tools.
