The Engineering Lead role is part of our Marketing Services team at WillowTree, a TELUS Digital company, supporting a hybrid work model in select U.S. locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain high-performance, secure, and scalable full-stack applications using cutting-edge technologies.
  • Lead the design and implementation of software solutions, adhering to best practices and coding standards.
  • Collaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Ensure the quality and reliability of the software through effective testing methodologies, including unit testing and automated testing platforms.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and methodologies to identify opportunities for improvement and implement them as needed.
  • Contribute to the growth of the engineering team by actively participating in the hiring process, conducting interviews, and providing valuable input.
  • Mentor team members to help grow their technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a deep understanding of software engineering and established best practices.
  • Embody a growth mindset and apply it in leadership style.
  • Lead the delivery of large and complex software projects from beginning to end in a team-based environment.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members, including presenting complex ideas compellingly.
  • Navigate ambiguity and contribute sound recommendations to influence product decisions.

Requirements

  • 9+ years of experience in a software engineering capacity.
  • 2+ years of engineering leadership experience, including leading teams and developing individuals.
  • Extensive experience in full-stack web development, including proficiency in JavaScript, Node.js, and the MEAN Stack.
  • In-depth knowledge of frontend technologies like HTML5, CSS3 (including server-side CSS preprocessors), and responsive UI implementation.
  • Experience with delivering large and complex software projects in a team environment.
  • Understanding of security considerations in software development and knowledge of best practices.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools for continuous integration and deployment.
  • Knowledge of software testing methodologies, including unit testing and automated testing platforms.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to handle difficult conversations.
  • Desire to contribute sound recommendations and influence product decisions.
  • Ability to work with diverse teams and backgrounds.
  • Self-awareness of limitations, curiosity to learn and grow.
