About the Role

The Engineering Manager, Machine Learning - Bot Defense at Roblox is responsible for leading the vision and development of the company's next-generation bot defense platform. This role involves building scalable ML systems and data pipelines to detect and mitigate malicious bot activity, ensuring platform security and safety. The position is based in San Mateo, CA, and offers an opportunity to influence product strategy and foster innovation in a safety-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities

Help define team's roadmap and long-term strategy to have best-in-class bot defense strategy
Build real-time and offline data pipelines and ML models for detection and mitigation of evolving bot behavior
Design highly scalable and reliable systems and APIs used by every team at Roblox
Empower innovation by pushing the team to discover creative and pragmatic solutions
Mentor team members individually to support their career growth and bring in top talent

Requirements

Equivalent experience or a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related field, with a minimum of 3+ years of people management experience
7+ years of hands-on experience in large-scale software development delivering highly performant solutions
7+ years of experience building large-scale ML systems at consumer-facing companies
Programming experience in one compiled language (C++, C#, Java) and one interpreted scripting language (JS, PHP, Python, Lua, etc.)
Strong mathematical and statistical methods experience
Collaboration skills across multiple teams and disciplines

Nice to Have

Experience in anti-fraud, anti-abuse, anti-cheat, trust & safety, or risk management

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
Minimum of 3+ years of people management experience
