We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, focused on space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit. As a Flight Software Engineer II, you will define, develop, and test flight software for the Blue Ring uncrewed spacecraft, work with a team of engineers to understand software usage, define requirements, create real-time embedded C/C++ software, and contribute to testing and pipelines to ensure product quality. You will also support satellite systems, avionics hardware, mission operations, and participate in the buildup and testing of flight vehicles, directly contributing to innovative spaceflight systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, develop, and test flight software for the Blue Ring uncrewed spacecraft.
  • Work with a team of engineers to understand software usage and define requirements.
  • Create real-time software using modern embedded C/C++ techniques.
  • Contribute to tests and pipelines to ensure product quality.
  • Support other areas such as avionics hardware and mission operations.
  • Participate in the buildup and testing of flight vehicles.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated software development skills in real-time embedded systems, particularly C/C++.
  • Experience defining and/or verifying low-level software structure, inter process communication, and scheduling.
  • Ability to understand and work within development and test environments that use containers and Python.
  • Effective debugging skills at the software/hardware boundary.

  • B.S. degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of software development experience for real-time embedded systems.
  • Experience with spacecraft development and operations, including proposals, system definition, design, production, integration, verification, on-orbit checkout, mission operations, and anomaly resolution.
  • Experience working on multi-component, sophisticated avionics for spacecraft or aircraft.
  • Experience in autonomy, sequencers, state machines, and fault management.
  • Experience with build automation, continuous integration, configuration management, verification, and deployment of software.
  • Experience developing safety-critical products utilizing NPR 7150.2, DO-178, or other safety-critical software standards.
  • Understanding of spacecraft operations, subsystem functions, and interfaces.
  • Experience with Embedded Linux or equivalent real-time operating systems.
  • Familiarity with embedded avionics networking, including OSI model, transport/data link layers, Ethernet, IP, UDP/TCP/SCTP, CCSDS or other radio networking protocols.
  • Active or ability to acquire/renew security clearance, including Top Secret (TS)/SCI with SSBI and polygraph.

Benefits & Perks

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Short and long-term disability.
  • 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%.
  • Education Support Program.
