Job Description

About the Role

This internship is designed to be full-time and in-person in New York City within the Visitors Services Section of the Outreach Division, Department of Global Communications at the United Nations. The role involves engaging and educating the public about the UN's work through guided tours, briefings, and outreach activities, supporting the operation of Visitors Services, and assisting with communication and research tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with planning and organizing outreach activities to educate the public about the UN's work
  • Providing support for the organization of guided tours, briefings, and events
  • Conducting research on UN thematic issues
  • Providing general office support, including drafting correspondence, maintaining files and databases, and organizing meetings
  • Assisting with taking photographs and videos to promote Visitors Services
  • Assisting with drafting media content for the Visitors Services Facebook and Twitter accounts
  • Responding to visitors' queries in-person and in writing
  • Assisting with the development, implementation, and analysis of surveys on visitors' experience
  • Performing other duties as required

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent) or a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher)
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word and MS PowerPoint
  • Ability to draft short articles and/or social media posts is desirable
  • Ability to take photos and videos, with basic knowledge of editing and retouching is desirable
  • Fluency in spoken and written English

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in or completion of a relevant university degree program (bachelor's or graduate level)
