About the Role

As a Kafka Software Developer at Parsons, you will be working closely with our partners as well as data engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure that our data-driven strategies are effective and aligned with our organizational goals. Parsons delivers resources to US government customers in areas such as defense, security, intelligence, infrastructure, and environmental sectors, fostering a culture of excellence and close-knit teamwork dedicated to protecting and sustaining critical assets.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain Kafka-based data streaming applications
Optimize Kafka performance and troubleshoot issues
Analyze user needs and develop software solutions
Develop scalable web-based data visualization and analytic platforms using Node.js, JavaScript, scalable databases (Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL), Docker, Python
Operate in an agile development environment using DevSecOps and CI/CD practices
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver solutions
Coordinate with Product Designer and Product Manager to translate 'user stories' into deliverable code
Conduct and participate in design reviews, sprint demonstrations, and after-action reviews
Write, review, and execute comprehensive test procedures
Deploy applications into development/staging/production environments
Ensure security of software and systems
Peer-review and comment on software code and write/review/update software design and user-focused documentation

Requirements

U.S. Citizenship and active DoD Secret clearance
B.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
Minimum 9+ years software engineering experience
Experience with DevSecOps and CI/CD practices
Experience developing in a Linux environment (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu)
Experience using scripting languages such as bash and sh
Experience with agile project management tools such as Jira and Confluence and configuration management tools like Gitlab
Experience with container systems such as Docker and Kubernetes
Experience with scripting languages including Node.js, JavaScript (TypeScript), and Python
Experience with YAML and JSON formats
Knowledge of the Big Data Platform (BDP)
Excellent testing skills
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have

SAFe Agile training such as Agile Software Engineer, SAFe for Teams, or SAFe for Government
Experience with automation languages such as Puppet, Ansible, and Terraform
Experience with data parsers and data ingest methodologies
Knowledge of analytics
Experience with RESTful web services and designing enterprise APIs
Web development experience with a focus on UI/UX
AI/ML experience

Qualifications

Educational background in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
