About the Role

The Software Engineering Manager at Safelite leads agile technology teams and is focused on building and operating applications and systems for Safelite clients and consumers. The role involves managing application development, including new features, enhancements, defect fixes, release planning, deployment, infrastructure, and production support. The manager is a people-first leader responsible for growing associates, adopting new technologies, and ensuring high software quality while accelerating time to market. They work closely with IT senior management to align product and department vision with business strategy.

Key Responsibilities

People leadership, associate engagement, development, succession planning, interviewing, hiring, performance management, and providing feedback; training, coaching, and mentoring team members on technical and soft skills
Lead agile development teams, ensure quality deliverables, and adherence to Safelite SDLC; coordinate staffing of QA, BA, and DevOps roles with resource managers
Act as the product/domain area subject matter expert in meetings with product owners, peers, business stakeholders, and leadership
Lead the development, implementation, and delivery of large-scale, critical, or complex software projects, including new software or refactoring existing software
Collaborate with Safelite IT functions such as Cloud Engineering, Network, Infrastructure, and other application development teams
Work with IT Senior Management to develop product, team direction, and vision aligned with business strategy
Drive team expectations and goals to support Safelite and IT objectives
Create project and team staffing plans, determine resource needs based on budget, workload, and project requirements
Manage product or project budgets, share status updates, and forecast future budgets
Establish monitoring and production support procedures; identify gaps through incident root cause analysis and plan improvements; enhance operations documentation
Perform other duties as assigned and ensure compliance with policies and standards

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
7-9 years of relevant experience
Experience building and operating applications using Agile/Scrum methodology
Experience with modern technologies such as microservices and cloud-based platforms
Management and supervisory experience, including managing others and applying management principles
Experience managing projects and programs
Proficiency in C#, .NET, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, SQL, Mulesoft, Azure DevOps
Knowledge of designing and building infrastructure and web services at large scale
Strong engineering background with experience in large scale data/distributed systems
Full stack experience
Experience with cloud platforms and container services (AWS/GCP/Azure)

Nice to Have

Experience with AI (medium proficiency)

Qualifications

Educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
