About the Role

The Manager of Video Backend Development at Optimum is responsible for leading and guiding a dynamic engineering team focused on the development, enhancement, and maintenance of backend software for video services. The role involves overseeing technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, SQL, GCP, and HLS, driving strategic initiatives, mentoring team members, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, innovative products that align with business goals. This position is based in Bethpage, NY, and is integral to Optimum's mission of providing reliable, high-speed connectivity solutions and fostering a culture of ownership, transparency, community, and expertise.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers, fostering an environment of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration
Manage team dynamics, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across engineering, product, and business teams
Lead the design, development, and maintenance of backend software for delivery of video, focusing on Java, Spring Boot, SQL, GCP, and HLS technologies
Oversee the integration of backend software with various frontend applications and devices, ensuring seamless operation and performance of video and metadata delivered to these devices
Collaborate with QA teams to ensure a comprehensive testing strategy that minimizes production defects and maintains product quality
Lead the technical direction for backend software projects, identifying innovative solutions and applying industry best practices
Serve as the subject matter expert for Java, Spring Boot, SQL, GCP, and HLS, guiding team members and driving technical excellence
Proactively assess new technologies, tools, and methodologies, ensuring the team remains at the forefront of backend video development
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define product requirements and align technical efforts with business priorities

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree is preferred
10+ years of experience in backend software development, including at least 4 years in a leadership role
Relevant certifications in video and backend development are advantageous
Proven leadership abilities, with a track record of successfully managing and motivating engineering teams

Qualifications

Experience with Java, Spring Boot, SQL, GCP, and HLS technologies
Leadership experience in software development teams
Educational background in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields

Starting pay range is $133,661.00 - $219,586.00 per year
