About the Role

Vertex is seeking to hire an Associate Director of Access Strategy Analytics & Insights to join the US Market Access (USMA) team within the Commercial organization. This individual will oversee and manage the Access Strategy Analytics & Insights function across all payer and channel segments in the United States. The role involves developing innovative analytical approaches to ensure patient access to groundbreaking therapies for rare diseases, supporting strategic access decisions, and providing qualitative and quantitative insights related to access barriers, payer behavior, and pull-through strategies. The position resides within the US Market Access, Data and Analytics Center of Excellence and requires strong data & analytics experience, deep subject matter expertise in U.S. market access, and proficiency with analytics tools and data sources. The role reports to the Senior Director, US Market Access Data & Analytics Center of Excellence and involves collaboration with multiple internal teams to support market access for new and existing products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of therapeutic area specific analytical insights in response to market access landscape, issues and trends.
  • Cross-collaborate with the Global Commercial Insights and Analytics Organization to incorporate qualitative and quantitative market research into market access analytics and strategy development.
  • Partner with Guidance & Patient Services (GPS) to integrate insights related to compliance, persistence, and adherence into access analytics and patient journey understanding.
  • Translate business objectives into analytic requirements to support Market Access Strategy enablement, delivering insights into payer policy trends, formulary positioning, and value messaging strategies across both commercial and government payers.
  • Conduct value and access outcomes analyses to evaluate policy impact, coverage variation, and access risks for pipeline, launch, and in-line brands.
  • Support Gross-to-Net (GTN) planning by supplying payer mix insights, utilization controls, and contract execution data to improve forecast inputs and sensitivity modeling.
  • Generate actionable insights using advanced data tools and technologies such as SQL, PowerBI, Excel, and other BI platforms, ensuring data validation, clarity, and business relevance.
  • Build executive-ready dashboards and insight products that communicate access opportunities and barriers through compelling, data-driven narratives for senior and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Work directly with payer account and Payer Field Engagement teams to translate insights into pull-through strategies and support tactical alignment across payer engagements.
  • Analyze Trade & Distribution data, including feeds like IntegriChain, to support visibility into product availability, distribution channel behavior, and downstream market access implications.
  • Conduct investigative analytics to validate and quantify market access phenomena related to competitive or customer tactics, identifying value drivers to remove barriers and improve brand value.
  • Perform claims analysis and build models to portray risks, opportunities, and sensitivities related to payer controls and market dynamics.
  • Conduct proactive research and analysis of data sources, industry publications, and stakeholder engagement to define channel, segment, and payer mix.
  • Inform and support future pre- and post-contract evaluations with contract operations and administration teams, considering volume, geography, and utilization trends.
  • Act as a connector between Access Strategy and internal data partners, aligning business questions with data architecture and insight delivery roadmaps.
  • Serve as an advocate in integrating market access insights across Vertex teams and develop strong partnerships with Data Technology & Engineering, Data Strategy & Solutions, and HEOR teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Statistics, Economics, or Finance.
  • 7-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with at least 6 years in insights, analytics, and reporting.
  • 10+ years of US pharmaceutical industry experience with increasing responsibilities.
  • 5+ years of experience in developing US Market Access, including Access Strategy, Pricing, Reimbursements, and Value Proposition in an analytical role.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Market Access data sets including MMIT, IQVIA, Pricing / GTN (Model-N), Trade and Distribution (IntegriChain 852/867), Dispenses and Claims (IQVIA, Optum), and Real-World Data (DRG, Market Scan).
  • Exceptional analytics and technical data query skills with experience supporting complex analytics and working with data scientists and engineers.
  • Strong to expert proficiency in Power BI and SQL; working knowledge of data lake platforms such as Snowflake is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and succinctly to senior leaders and manage complexity and ambiguity in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong data storytelling skills with PowerPoint, Excel, and PowerBI, capable of synthesizing technical data into clear, impactful visuals and messages.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence decision-makers through analysis and persuasive communication.
  • Ability to develop relationships and collaborate effectively across teams.

Nice to Have

  • Master's Degree in a quantitative discipline and/or MBA, MPH.
  • Experience analyzing large data sets using statistical software such as R or Python.
  • Good understanding of state and federal policies and government programs impacting market access, trade, distribution, and gross-to-net impacts.
  • Knowledge of statutory government pricing methodologies.
  • Highly diverse US product launch experience across different disease areas, especially rare diseases.
  • Experience working with stakeholders such as Health Plans, PBMs, Hospital Systems, and Specialty Pharmacies.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a quantitative discipline and/or MBA, MPH.
  • 6 or more years of pharmaceutical market access experience and subject matter expertise.
