About the Role

The Patient Accounts Specialist at Luminis Health is responsible for following up on third-party payer accounts receivable and appeals. The role involves ensuring maximum cash flow, protecting the organization from losses through billing and collection activities, and acting as a liaison with patients, departments, and external agencies to facilitate claims processing and payment. The position requires staying current on regulatory and reimbursement requirements and obtaining necessary insurance information and authorizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow up on all third-party payer accounts receivable and appeals.
  • Ensure maximum cash flow and protect the organization from losses by billing and collection along with revenue cycle functions of claims submission.
  • Act as a liaison with patients, other departments, and fellow Patient Financial Services teammates to obtain information related to claims processing and payment.
  • Interact with industry-wide peers, state, federal, and local regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with billing and reimbursement requirements and statutes.
  • Remain current on all regulatory and environmental agency requirements regarding billing and reimbursement for payer requirements and statutes.
  • Obtain all health insurance information and appropriate authorizations needed for services.
  • Communicate with all departments as needed.
  • Facilitate resolution of third-party receivables by contacting external departments and payors.
  • Follow standard work daily including third-party follow-up and reporting activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience performing hospital accounts receivable or other relevant experience.
  • CRCS or HBI Certification required within 12 months of start date.
