The Perception Engineer will contribute to developing un-crewed maritime systems leveraging unsupervised autonomy for long endurance, multi-mission capabilities, focusing on robotic perception systems for autonomous vehicles throughout their product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement an accurate, real-time 3-D perception system into vehicle system software to ensure safe navigation and effective operation of autonomous vehicles
  • Utilize advanced techniques in computer vision, sensor fusion, and machine learning to enhance perception capabilities of Anduril vehicles
  • Develop software that runs on- and off-platform, using a variety of technologies
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of development processes for the initial delivery and subsequent iteration of robotic software, including full lifecycle testing
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to integrate perception technologies into vehicle architectures
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of perception algorithms through metrics on offline datasets, simulation, and real-world experiments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, mechanical engineers, and systems engineers, to ensure effective system integration and testing

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Engineering, a relevant field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with aspects of the perception development life-cycle: recording, annotation, algorithm development, evaluation, and edge implementation
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle hardware and sensors such as radar, sonar, LIDAR, and cameras
  • Knowledge of at least one of: computer vision, tracking, sensor fusion, SLAM, machine learning
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to define and implement robust validation and verification strategies for the perception system
  • Capacity to learn and grow individually, while contributing to team cohesion
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance

Nice to Have

  • Experience with autonomous systems in the maritime domain
  • Experience developing modern machine learning approaches to perception such as models for end-to-end multi modal 3-D object detection and tracking
  • Experience with traditional tracking and sensor fusion
  • Experience building datasets for tracking and producing established metrics for evaluating tracking algorithms
  • Experience with simulation tools and frameworks, such as Gazebo, Unity, or Unreal Engine, for algorithm validation and testing
  • Knowledge of safety standards and certification processes for autonomous systems
  • Familiarity with System Engineering concepts
