The Principal Engineer - Front End role involves improving UX engineering and velocity, developing best-in-industry capabilities, and guiding teams in modern front-end practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write high-quality code that is easy to maintain and test
  • Build TypeScript and JavaScript client code using modern web frameworks and technologies (React + Redux + Sass)
  • Work with UX and Design to standardize and simplify UI development practices
  • Build modular/reusable UI components
  • Build and maintain front-end web application infrastructure
  • Participate in the entire development life cycle, from concept to release
  • Support strategic code sharing and architecture for one or more functional areas
  • Ensure design and architecture is extensible across multiple projects, and participate in technical design and code reviews
  • Work with Product Management and other developers to understand design requirements and provide estimates for development
  • Work closely with QA to identify test cases and devise efficient, scalable testing processes
  • Work cooperatively with product management and design to create features that are scalable and secure
  • Identify, propose, and implement process improvements to increase team productivity and efficiency
  • Stay current with the latest software engineering best practices and share findings with the team
  • Work as part of a cross-site development team to drive design, implementation, testing, and release of products
  • Raise issues proactively that might impact delivery commitments
  • Research new features and technologies
  • Fix production issues and maintain the code as needed

Requirements

  • 15+ years of software development experience
  • 10+ years of web application development
  • Experience with modern web application technologies (TypeScript, ES6, React/Angular/VueJS, Sass/Less, Node, Next.js etc.)
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent industry experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience building design and component libraries
  • 5+ years experience implementing responsive designs for mobile, tablet, and desktop
  • 5+ years building SaaS web applications
  • 2+ years experience with web accessibility standards and practices
  • Experience aligning platform architecture with security and data
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks
  • Experience developing, promoting and building consensus across engineering teams
  • Understanding of web application design principles such as usability, performance, and security
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with frequent production releases
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
