About the Role

The Principal Product Manager at Alaska Airlines is a lead subject matter expert responsible for crafting the vision and backlog for an assigned product area. This role involves working closely with business stakeholders, designers, and engineers to design, implement, test, and refine digital experiences. The position also includes mentoring teammates and providing thought leadership within Alaska Air Group, contributing to creating an airline that people love.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the creation, communicates, and regularly updates a vision and direction for their product portfolio.
  • Responsible for the creation, decisions, and maintenance of a value-based prioritized backlog of opportunities for products which align to Alaska's business strategy and goals.
  • Responsible for the creation, communication, and maintenance of strategic roadmaps to ensure visibility and transparency of work planned.
  • Use product discovery techniques to move from idea to prototype.
  • Accountable for the creation of user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Utilize story mapping techniques to inform the creation of release plans, with a strong bias towards incremental delivery and iteration.
  • Partner with UX Design & Engineering teams to provide guidance and prioritization during product development and participate in user research and discovery activities.
  • Exercise judgment to make key tradeoff decisions.
  • Engage in constructive conversations with stakeholders, including senior executives, and build professional relationships.
  • Coordinate new and changed functionality with affected groups for seamless rollout.
  • Interact with external vendors in design, delivery, and support of software and hardware products.
  • Develop and report on key product development metrics and track performance.
  • Provide day-to-day support of the portfolio including managing support inquiries, responding to user feedback, creating communications, triaging system issues, and managing timelines within Agile Sprint processes.
  • Build and establish partnerships with external vendors and partners to support operations and products.

Requirements

  • 7 years of experience in product management and/or technology.
  • Bachelor's degree with a focus in a related discipline, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Proficiency with product management methodologies including user research and product discovery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with diverse audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to facilitate user group meetings and drive agendas for common solutions.
  • Proficiency with AGILE/SCRUM software development methodology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management cross-divisionally.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with increased complexity.
  • Ability to manage conflict.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice to Have

  • Prior product management experience with a team developing mobile applications for iOS devices.
  • Prior airline industry experience.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships.

Qualifications

  • 7 years of experience in product management and/or technology.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
