This role is part of the Electro-Optics (EO) department, supporting the development of sensor systems for challenging environments such as UAS, maritime, gun and missile launched projectiles, and low earth orbit platforms. The position is onsite at our Burnsville, MN location and involves requirements decomposition, software and algorithm design, development, analysis, prototype testing, and system integration for EO and RF sensors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate as an individual contributor supporting program activities, delegate, provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts across the organization to define software architecture and ensure seamless integration with hardware solutions.
  • Implement best practices for code quality, including code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines.
  • Identify and resolve technical challenges and issues, ensuring the robustness and reliability of software solutions.
  • Ensure software development processes and products comply with industry standards, security protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with firmware, software, algorithm, and hardware engineers to create integrated EO, active and passive RF sensing systems.
  • Perform requirements development, validation, and subsystem trade studies.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and process issues down to CCA and component levels in a lab setting.
  • Conduct failure analysis, root cause determination, and implement corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 7 years of Electro-Optical and RF subsystems experience.
  • Design experience with gun launched applications, UAS, low earth orbit, or similar challenging environments.
  • Experience in leading software development and managing complex projects through research and development with undefined and changing requirements.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Ability to work in quick-turn iterative nature.
  • Excellent documentation, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Comfortable working across design levels from concept to production.
  • ABET accreditation standard, with a 3.0 cumulative GPA desired.
  • Ability to develop and present technical briefings.
  • Current/Active DoD security clearance or SSBI.
  • Subject matter expertise with industry impact.
  • Experience with real-time embedded systems and software development for aerospace and defense.
  • Experience with machine learning, neural nets, or artificial intelligence.
  • Object identification, recognition, and tracking algorithms.
  • Experience developing virtual algorithm test environments.
  • Experience with test automation scripting, sensor control, and hardware/software integration.
  • Seeker design or sensor systems integration and test experience or coursework in EO and RF applications.
  • Knowledge in optical and RF design, analysis, and testing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM fields.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Electro-Optical and RF subsystems.
  • Design experience with challenging environments such as gun launched applications, UAS, or low earth orbit.
  • Experience managing complex software projects in R&D environments.

  • Salary range of $101,000 - $203,000.
