Job Description

About the Role

This position is located in the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), a United Nations entity that builds bridges between societies, promotes dialogue and understanding, and seeks to forge the collective political will required to accomplish these tasks. UNAOC works as a convener and facilitator to bring all sectors of society together to strengthen intercultural and interreligious dialogue to diminish hostility, and promote mutual respect and harmony among the people and cultures of the world. UNAOC's activities are fashioned around the five pillars of Education, Youth, Migration, Media, and Women as peace mediators in identity-based settings. The Programme Officer (Institution and Member States Relation Officer) will report to the Director of the UNAOC Secretariat.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements and evaluates assigned activities relevant to the UNAOC mandate; monitors and analyzes its development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed; liaises with relevant parties and member states in coordination and when requested by UNAOC Director; ensures follow-up actions.
  • Reviews, monitors and maps activities of the members and non-members of UNAOC Group of Friends relevant to the mandate of UNAOC, identifying common areas of interest.
  • Researches and analyzes issues that fall under the UNAOC mandate and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Coordinates policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies, and supports the implementation of UNAOC's regular Action Plan.
  • Generates survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses; identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
  • Organizes and prepares written outputs, such as draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, and inputs to publications.
  • Provides substantive backstopping to consultative and other meetings, conferences, including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, and preparing documents and presentations.
  • Initiates and coordinates outreach activities when requested; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
  • Leads and/or participates in specific inter-agency or expert task forces or working groups either internally or with outside parties, on behalf of UNAOC.
  • Coordinates activities related to budget funding, liaises with donors and relevant UN departments and offices, and prepares related documents/reports.
  • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns of member states and international organizations and provides insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports using data visualization methods.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in donor relations at the national and international level.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in coordinating high-level events, including intergovernmental meetings, international conferences, and high-level dialogues convened by Member States, the United Nations or other multilateral bodies.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience advising senior managers in the United Nations Common System, intergovernmental organizations, or government inter-agency on coordination and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
  • Educational qualification: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business administration, international relations, political science, social sciences, or a related field, or a first-level degree with two additional years of qualifying work experience.
  • Experience in data analytics, digital innovation, foresight methodologies, behavioral science, or organizational culture change is desirable.

  • Experience in consensus-building and partnership development with Member States, civil society, and external partners.
