Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a research Data Analyst in the Department of Oral Health Policy and Epidemiology (OHPE) at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. This position will work with Dr. Hawazin Elani and her team on health policy projects focused on disparities in oral health. The role involves managing datasets, conducting statistical analyses, developing models, and collaborating on research dissemination activities, including manuscripts and publications. The position requires adherence to data security and regulatory guidelines and offers opportunities for independent and collaborative work in a university research environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage various datasets, estimate statistical models, and determine report formats and analysis considerations.
  • Develop study questions and analytic approaches, including literature and data searches from various sources.
  • Optimize, test, and debug model code, and clearly document model development, structure, logic, and testing procedures.
  • Summarize and present findings through reports, tables, graphs, and models.
  • Collaborate on manuscripts, abstracts, and other publications documenting study findings.
  • Engage in research dissemination activities including presentations at lab meetings and updates to funding agencies.
  • Participate in modelling work group meetings and contribute to new project and proposal development.
  • Analyze electronic health records, administrative claims, and national survey data.
  • Follow institutional and regulatory procedures for working with confidential data, including staying current with training requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in statistics, computer science, data science, or a closely related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
  • Experience and knowledge of quantitative methods including causal inference and econometric analyses.

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in statistics, economics, or related quantitative field.
  • Experience working on public health, health services, and epidemiological research projects.
  • Experience with health care claims data (Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance).
  • Strong quantitative background and experience working with large datasets.
  • Desire to learn new modeling approaches and statistical methods.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
