About the Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and lead a team through all aspects of the Software Life Cycle using Agile Methodologies, including requirements interpretation, design, trade studies, development, task estimation, testing, task tracking, and deployment.
  • Support design and development for new technical solutions and frameworks for thin client, server side development, object oriented programming, embedded programming, and database patterns and implementation.
  • Support the technical leads in work breakdowns of larger tasks, effectively estimate individual tasks, and assist in estimations for junior staff.
  • Assist and lead small teams in planning and task tracking.
  • Be a proactive and self-directed technical contributor capable of mentoring and effectively communicating task updates, technical solutions, questions, and technical documentation, including interactions with the client.
  • Contribute to the design and development of an advanced software architecture utilizing object oriented and embedded programming fundamentals, distributing computing, thin clients, and data distribution systems.
  • Actively contribute and eventually lead all phases of the project life cycle: developing technical requirements, designing and developing solutions, testing and integration, and installation and documentation.
  • Interact with team members and customers to understand requirements and constraints of the target environment.
  • Assist with the breakdown of larger tasks and develop estimations of individual and team tasks.
  • Work primarily at SwRI facilities/laboratories and travel short-term to government client facilities in the U.S. and overseas for meetings, system installations, and support.
  • Communicate proactively and confidently on task status, with team leads and project leadership, and mentor junior staff.
  • Work effectively in self-direction on tasks as well as within a team.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with an emphasis on programming and software development or a related field such as Computational Engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience demonstrating critical thinking and proactiveness.
  • Experience in programming languages such as Javascript, JAVA, C#, C++, HTML5, and Python.
  • Comfortable working within Agile methodologies for project execution.
  • Ability to analyze and translate complex technical requirements into application design, implementation, testing, and documentation.
  • Proficient in working with Microsoft Tools, Software Repositories, Software Engineering practices, Distributed computing, and Computer Science principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented, proactive, fast learner, and able to work collaboratively and self-direct.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and subject to a government security investigation to access classified information.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or related field.
