The Translational Neural Engineering Laboratory in the University of Minnesota Department of Psychiatry is seeking a Research Engineer interested in working at the intersection of technology, neuroscience, and mental health. The laboratory develops technologies for changing activity in distributed brain networks involved in severe mental illnesses such as PTSD, major depression, addiction, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The role involves recording electrical brain signals and delivering targeted stimulation in both model animal systems and human volunteers, utilizing techniques from brain-computer interface/neural prosthetic technologies. This is a support/cross project role working collaboratively to develop, maintain, and extend data analysis pipelines that fuse signals from video, physical sensing, and electrical brain recordings to understand the biological basis of mental illness.
The University of Minnesota Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences comprises a team of researchers, clinicians, and educators dedicated to advancing mental health science, providing effective clinical care, training future interprofessional experts, and engaging in outreach and advocacy. The university values diversity and inclusion, offering equal access and opportunity in its programs, facilities, and employment, and fostering a supportive and innovative work environment.
