About the Role

The Revenue Cycle / Patient Accounts Specialist I is responsible for managing various aspects of patient financial records, researching coverage options, providing customer service, processing applications, monitoring payment plans, and supporting the Admitting and Patient Financial Advisors teams. The role involves ensuring accurate patient insurance information, performing routine operational tasks, and supporting process and project management initiatives within a healthcare setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, copy, and mail member-financial records to requestors such as courts, attorneys, or copy services.
  • Research databases and work queues to identify third-party, workers compensation, and secondary coverage availability for patient bills using templates and basic business knowledge.
  • Negotiate payment plans and set terms of pay agreements.
  • Provide customer service by explaining the application process, processing applications, and dispositions in accordance with policy regulations.
  • Perform routine collection interactions with a defined set of patient accounts to collect payments.
  • Monitor payment plans to determine if agreements should be sustained or canceled.
  • Approve adjustments with limited authority.
  • Prepare self check-in services, procure documents, and perform day-to-day operations for the Admitting and Patient Financial Advisors teams.
  • Assist in verifying and entering patient insurance information correctly prior to service.
  • Collaborate with team members to address business problems, escalate issues, and communicate progress.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and applicable standards.
  • Conduct research to answer patient questions and ensure accurate patient accounts.
  • Assist with performance management initiatives by producing reports and analyzing data to assess performance progress.
  • Support process management initiatives by coordinating with team members and documenting project requirements.
  • Assist with project execution and management efforts, ensuring successful implementation of project-based changes.
  • Facilitate regulatory reporting by reviewing work accuracy and applying regulation standards.
  • Support systems management initiatives by integrating new system processes with routine work.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED).
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in data analytics, clinic/hospital operations, customer services, banking, healthcare coding, registration, billing, and collections, or relevant experience.
  • Or minimum two (2) years of experience working in a corporate or business office environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of relevant experience or two years in a corporate/business office setting.
