Optum AI is UnitedHealth Group's enterprise AI team, composed of AI/ML scientists and engineers with deep expertise in AI/ML engineering for health care. We develop AI/ML solutions for high-impact opportunities across various UnitedHealth Group businesses, focusing on responsible AI/ML innovation and developing enterprise AI/ML platforms. Our team works on cutting-edge ML, NLP, and LLM techniques, including generative AI methods for structured and unstructured health care data, often collaborating with top universities and publishing patents and papers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the inference and delivery of machine learning insights to multiple customers
  • Manage, monitor, and scale machine learning systems, delivering insights to multiple customers
  • Own model and data orchestration
  • Drive pipeline efficiency and reliability through profiling, refactoring and advanced engineering
  • Work with the broader technical team to scope engineering milestones, provide updates, and communicate challenges
  • Develop new data pipelines to improve ML model usage

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in computer science or related quantitative field
  • 3+ years of experience with PySpark or SQL
  • 2+ years of experience with software engineering and software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • 2+ years of experience with CI/CD tools to ship production code
  • 2+ years of experience with cloud environments and cloud-based batch model deployments using Python in at least one of Azure, AWS, Google Cloud

Nice to Have

  • MS in computer science or related quantitative field
  • Expertise in ML Ops, for example, model monitoring, drift detection, and event-based model retraining
  • Experience with Databricks, AzureML, and Snowflake or related technologies

Qualifications

  • Formal educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; MS preferred
