About the Role

The Lockheed Martin Artificial Intelligence Center (LAIC) team is seeking a high energy experienced individual with a strong background in software engineering and computer science to support the Applied AI team and specifically the Cognitive Baseline portfolio. The team focuses on exploiting small, innovative, and agile teams to rapidly iterate and mature solutions from prototypes to deployment for utilization across the Lockheed Martin enterprise and in the field for customers. The role involves developing software products that implement Artificial Intelligence to provide discriminating capability, engaging in all phases of the system development lifecycle, and potentially assuming technical lead responsibilities and mentoring junior engineers. The position offers flexibility to work at any major Lockheed Martin facility or part-time remotely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of software products that implement Artificial Intelligence to provide discriminating capability to customers.
  • Engage in requirements generation, system and software design, implementation, integration, and flight test.
  • Develop proof of concepts, prototypes, demonstrators, and transition solutions to production.
  • Leverage current computer science paradigms including object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and I/O to solve complex problems.
  • Assume technical lead responsibilities and mentor junior engineers as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Experience with C++, Java, GO, Rust, or other compiled languages.
  • Experience with DevOps tools such as Docker/Podman, Git, or GitLab CI/CD.
  • Experience with communication protocols like REST or gRPC.
  • Experience with messaging protocols such as Kafka, ActiveMQ, ZeroMQ, or DDS.
  • Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Nice to Have

  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Experience with Test-Driven Development at unit and system levels.
  • Experience with software orchestration tools like Kubernetes, Helm, Istio/Linkerd.
  • Experience developing microservices and microservice architectures.
  • Experience building and deploying software for defense mission systems.
  • Experience with real-time embedded software engineering.
  • Experience with hardware-accelerated computing (CUDA, Intel oneAPI, SYCL).
  • Experience with model deployment libraries (NVIDIA TensorRT, Triton Inference Server, OnnxRuntime).
  • Experience deploying AI systems in cloud and edge environments.
  • Experience with high-performance computing.
  • Experience interfacing with databases (SQL, MongoDB, etc.).
  • Experience leading engineers or small teams.
  • Familiarity with transitioning prototype software to production.
  • Top Secret // SCI Clearance.

Qualifications

  • Experience with defense mission systems software development is preferred.
  • Experience with real-time embedded software engineering is preferred.
  • Experience with hardware-accelerated computing for CPUs and GPUs is preferred.
  • Experience with model deployment software libraries is preferred.
  • Experience deploying AI-enabled systems in multiple environments is preferred.
  • Experience with databases such as SQL or MongoDB is preferred.
  • Experience leading other engineers or small teams is preferred.
